Germanic spatha from Avaldsnes
reconstructed after a find from the princely grave of Avaldsnes in southwest Norway
The extraordinary grave from Avaldsnes was excavated in 1834, which means that the finds are in very poor condition, which made the reconstruction difficult for us in collaboration with the museum.
The rich grave was probably reserved for a very high prince, as in Gommern. The burial mound was occupied from the Bronze Age to the Viking era.
