Attic helmet
after an original from Romanie, Gavani, 3rd to 2nd century BC.
This type of greek helmet was very typical fort he hellenistic period from the 4th century BC up to the 2nd century , where it was worn in the colonies of Greece: South Italy, Egypte, black sea.
As we know, we have about 10 finds of these attic helmets made out of bronze for legionnaries and 4 finds made out of iron and covered by a silver sheet for officers.
This helmet is made from a single sheet of bronze on your own measurements.
There are two original versions :
In Bronze
In iron , covered with a silver sheet
the 3rd version is a cheaper version in Bronze, silver plated.
The technic of silver plating doesn’t existe in Europe before the 14th
century. Only in China we got some finds made in this technique, from
the 3rd century BC to the 1st century AD.
